How to make Boondi

What is Boondi? Boondi has come from a Hindi word Boond means drop. Boondis are small deep fried balls of gram flour use in Indian cuisine. They can be used in savory as well as dessert preparations. Boondis are use in many snacks. Ready made boondis are easily available in Indian markets.But one can make them at home too.

Ingredients
(makes about 3 cups)

  • Gram flour(Besan) 1 cup
  • Sodium bi carbonate  a pinch
  • water about  ¾ cup
  • Oil   for deep frying

Utensil:

  • A special sieve to make boondis

Method of preparation

  1. Sieve the Gram flour(Besan), add soda and little water at a time to make the batter of medium consistency (like cake's batter).Beat it thoroughly for around4- 5 minutes. 
  2. In a wok/pan heat oil. Take 2 table spoons of the batter in the big whole sieve. Hold the sieve with the left hand just above the wok and with the right hand press the batter with the table spoon, boondis will directly fall in the wok. Now keep the Boondi sieve aside and fry the boondis in the wok for about 2-3 minutes. Take the boondis out and drain onto kitchen paper/towel.

  1. Repeat the process with the remaining batter.

  2. Allow the boondis to cool. Store in an airtight container.


With 1 cup flour, 3 cups of boondi will be made.
